Ekonnect was conceived and nurtured by Dr. Prasad Modak, Executive President of Environmental Management Centre (EMC), India. Founded with a vision of spreading environmental learning in an interactive fashion, Ekonnect is one of its kinds that helps bring radical development in learning, networking and awareness in the field of environmental management. Ekonnect offers five distinctive programmes namely Training, Environmental Internship Programme (EIP), Finishing School on Environmental Management, Eko Hub and Eko Awards. Ekonnect is a common platform for all environmental enthusiasts to connect with each and established a long term vision of sustainable environmental management effort.
Challenge
Ekonnect wanted a robust and effective e-learning mechanism integrated in its portal. They wanted to bridge the gap for Environmental management enthusiasts to study their favorite subjects online - anywhere, anytime. They wanted an open source Learning Management Systems with Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) compliance. In addition to that they also wanted learning pathway, which allows flexibility to the learner to choose the sequence through which he wants to study the course content. One of their requirements was to make it possible for the registered user to access this e-learning portal, elearning.ekonnect.net with same user name and password they had for www.ekonnect.net and access the same database. They also wanted certain customization for their Ekonnect portal. It was an exceptional task but we took the challenge and delivered the desired results.
Solutions
The challenge that was put forward by Ekonnect was not easy to undertake all at once so we offered them step-wise solutions. Our team of expert developers and project head had a series of discussions to implement the solutions. Joomla LMS is a robust open source Learning Management System it is customizable, secure, scalable and SCORM compliant, it also has a learning pathway. Integrating Joomla LMS with Ekonnect made it an effective e-learning mechanism to the environmental enthusiasts. One of the more challenging tasks was to allow user to access both the sites elearning.ekonnect.net, and www.ekonnect.net with same set of user name and password. We offered them a solution to this problem by creating a root folder in the sub-domain itself. This allowed seamless access of both the portals with a single user name and password. We also customized the user interface of the portal with clean and neat looks.
