altGoogle Chromebooks are laptops with chrome OS as its operating system.  Unlike traditional laptops these Intel Celeron based laptops are lightweight, fast and quick. It comes with multiple layers of security, cloud storage, pre-installed browser and features like Chrome instant and Chrome Omnibox to make your computing experience extraordinary. Chromebook are coming to India in a week or two and it will be available from Croma and Reliance Digital. You can also pre-order it form Flipkart where a Acer Chromebook with 11.6-inch screen size will set you back by 23k and 14-inch HP Chromebook by make you poorer by 27K. Google Chromebook pixel is touch based and hence expensive from rest of the Chromebook series. But the price difference is quiet huge when compared to US market the Acer 720 sells at $240 on Amazon.com and same is available in India for $370, similarly HP Chromebook 14-inch which retails at $300 in US is selling for $435 in India. At times the difference is as high as 50%. The older Chromebook model disappoints on battery life and performance but offers a good experience while browsing web and web-based applications.  But the new models have improved a lot and offer a stellar battery life and amazing performance.
Google Chromebook does not have option to install any other browser, software like photoshop, coral, MS office, iTunes etc. However users have an option to install any extensions from Google Chrome store. Additionally it lacks optical drive, and may also not be compatible some of your printer and other devices. With every Chromebook you get 100 GB of Google Storage space for 2 years, which otherwise would have cost you $120. You can also attach flash drive to the available USB ports for data transfer. You can use Google Drive to store and retrieve all your important files. At present with limited software support Google Chromebook cannot replace the present laptop or desktops at tyhe onset. You can buy Google Chromebook if you surf internet a lot and all your work are web-based or else a good Apple or Android tablet will be just fine.

It is very difficult to say whether you should buy a Chromebook or not it all depends upon your usage, applications you want to run and pricing you are comfortable with. Will you be happy with a $435 or $370 Chromebook? With the limited functionality it offers? If yes then you should buy it and if not then you should look for other alternative. With today’s generation using multiplatform and different applications what role exactly Google Chromebook will play in the larger scheme of things need to be seen.
